Our Story

The Beginning

European Birdies was founded by Swedish disc golf professional Josef Berg, one of Sweden's top players. Inspired by Eric and Tina Oakley's success selling Whale Sacs at Tyyni in 2019, Josef noticed the high demand for premium accessories and believed he could create something exceptional. As a perfectionist, Josef began experimenting with various fabrics and fillings, which led to the creation of the first product, the Birdie. The name “European Birdies” stems from Josef’s vision of seeing more birdies from European players, especially in U.S. events, tying the brand’s identity to his passion for the sport.

Bag Production

 

While searching for the best disc golf bag on the market, Josef found the Pound bag to be the top option. However, with shipping costs and taxes, acquiring one in Europe could cost nearly $800 - a significant barrier for most players. Recognizing an opportunity to create an ultra-premium bag tailored for the European market, Josef began developing his next project, originally called "The Archetype."

The SACCI Partnership

To ensure unparalleled quality and craftsmanship, Josef partnered with SACCI, a company owned by the Haglöfs family with over 120 years of expertise in creating carrying systems for the Swedish military and first responders. Confident in SACCI’s reputation, Josef dedicated himself to the project spending nights sleeping in his car outside SACCI’s headquarters in Borlänge to refine the bag.

After more than two years and five prototypes, Josef, together with Product Developer Marika Larsson - a seasoned expert with 17 years of experience, including at Volvo Cars - perfected the bag’s design. Every stitch, cut, and fabric pattern was meticulously crafted in Sweden. For production efficiency and cost, SACCI collaborates with select overseas partners. Final prototypes are developed by various factories, and the one offering the highest quality and lowest margin for error is chosen for production.

Disc Golf Accessories

Understanding that a great bag deserves equally great accessories, European Birdies expanded into high-quality disc golf accessories. This includes MOLLE-compatible attachments designed to future-proof our bags and elevate the player's experience. By focusing on durability, innovation, and functionality, we aim to complement our bags with premium gear.
